Light Trap is a documentary portrait of Polish visual artist Paweł Bownik and an intimate look into his distinctive creative process. Rather than searching for images, Bownik constructs them – meticulously building elaborate sets, objects and situations in the confined space of his studio before capturing the final image on large-format film.

The film follows Bownik as he works on a series of new projects, observing the long and often obsessive process hidden behind photographs that appear precise, controlled and almost effortless. Through his work, conversations and the strange world of objects accumulating around him, Light Trap explores the tension between construction and chance, control and uncertainty, and the moment when an idea finally becomes an image.

Filmed over an extended period and structured around Bownik’s evolving work rather than a traditional biography, the documentary is a portrait of an artist through the act of making.
